FAQs

What does it mean to be a Board-Certified Dermatologist?

Board-certified dermatologists are distinguished physicians, either Doctors of Medicine (MD) or Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), who have undergone the most specialized training in dermatology to provide exceptional care for the skin, hair, and nails. Their journey includes a four-year undergraduate degree, four years of medical school, a one-year internship, and a three-year dermatology residency. Board certification is achieved upon successful completion of a rigorous examination. A commitment to lifelong learning ensures that board-certified dermatologists stay at the forefront of advancements in their field throughout their careers.

When should I see my Dermatologist?

You should visit your Dermatologist at least once a year for a thorough skin exam. If you have issues between your yearly visit, including acne, a suspicious area that doesn’t heal, a rash or an infected nail you should see your Dermatologist promptly. Many skin conditions can be managed easily with a dermatologist’s diagnosis and treatment.

What are the risk factors for skin cancer?
  • Fair skin or skin that freckles, easily turns red or quickly becomes sensitive after sun exposure
  • Blue or green eyes
  • Blonde or red hair
  • A family history of skin cancer
  • Exposure to the sun at work or play
  • Sunburns, especially blistering burns, early in life
  • A history of tanning (indoor or outdoor)
